I reluctantly settled on a variety pack containing a rather macabre assortment...
Ingredients: Pork Bone, Beef Bones, Beef Hooves, Beef Trachea, Pork Skin, Beef Ligament, Lamb Ear
Mmmmm... Delicious, wouldn't you agree?
Well, Skeletor certainly thinks so!
Variety... the spice of life
Skeletor came to us on the verge of starvation. It's only day 4 of his rehab and he's already developing distinguished taste! It was time for his 1pm feeding and I looked out to find his bowl still full of Bil-Jac Puppy Food. Then he started eating the bil-jac that he had spilled on the ground - totally uninterested in the full bowl!
Fortunately, I bought another variety... some purina one puppy chow of some sort. I brought out a second bowl full of the new stuff and what do you know? Skeletor descended upon the new chow like a ravenous fiend!
As he was devouring the purina, I was tossing in handfuls of bil-jac haha.
After lunch, it was time for some exercise...
Dude, if you think those are bad you really don't want to know what bully sticks are made of - we looked at them for my boyfriend's mom's dogs, and then I saw what they were - pass!
ReplyDeleteawww he looks so cute. even skinny ,you can tell he's a beautiful dog. :)

I left some comments on your first post by accident about dewormers. He very likely has worms, they usually only pass when they are dead. You can see tapeworms and roundworms, but hookworms are tiny.

I can't imagine how many people saw and turned their back on poor Skeletor. You are wonderful to help him; he's just beautiful! He'll repay you tenfold in love and appreciation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi my name is Remington! I hope we can be friends. Thank you for taking care of him. The world needs more people like you!
ReplyDeleteHi there! The Houston Pittie Pack sent my moms and me over. I wanted to tell you that I was very, very skinny when I first got rescued, too. My fostermommy couldn't even bear to take my picture! But I'm all fixed up now and I found the Best Home That Ever Was. I bet Mr. Skeletor will feel better soon and find his Best Home That Ever Was, too!

Skelly is going to be a handsome dude when he puts on some weight.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about so much of that stuff is that is is high in Chondroitin which is really good for bone building and joints (the hooves, trachea, and ears, etc. It is all gristle) I can already see some of the spaces starting to fill in a bit. Isn't it amazing the way that they can recoup if someone takes some time and treats and feeds them properly, not to mention that those that you bring back from the brink of death like this will give you their hearts for life.
ReplyDeleteWe have contacted Animal Control in starvation cases and been told that if there is feces in with the animal, then it can eat that. Several horses had to be put down because of that philosophy! It's just SICKENING!!! You are truly being a lifesaver! My sister is one of two people that run a dog rescue in our town, and we have helped foster some of them until they can be taken to a no-kill shelter or found homes. Grammy and the CCC
